We would like to take you on a short journey through the decades, how a passion of Elfriede and Hugo Niesmann led to several successful companies:

Niesmann Caravaning - A house with tradition

  1. The beginning of a success story

    1955

    Hugo and Elfriede Niesmann start from their hobby and their love for mobile travelling with the trade of caravans on the campsite in Bad Hönningen.

  2. The enlargement begins ...

    1959

    Relocation of the caravan trade to Koblenz to a site at the intersection of Friedrich-Ebert-Ring / Am Mainzer Tor. The company is named "Mittelrhein Caravaning Niesmann KG".

  3. Preparations for the next big step

    1970

    Purchase of an approximately 15,000 sqm large plot of land in the Mülheim-Kärlich industrial estate

  4. Relocation to the new company headquarters

    1971

    New building and move to the once again enlarged, modern company headquarters with workshop and accessories shop on the property in Industriestraße in Mülheim-Kärlich purchased the previous year.

  5. Start of the caravan import

    1975

    Hugo Niesmann starts with the import of Fleetwood motorhomes from the USA.

  6. Foundation of Niesmann+Bischoff

    1981

    Carl-Heinz Niesmann (son of Elfriede and Hugo) and his brother-in-law Rainer Bischoff found the company Niesmann+Bischoff GmbH and from now on produce motorhomes of the Clou brand at the former company headquarters in Mülheim-Kärlich. Already in the first year the sensation occurred: the large rental chain "InterRent" prefers the new alcove model "Clou Trend" to the established motorhome brands and orders 50 to 70 Clou motorhomes for rental in the following years.

  7. Cooperation with Hobby begins

    1981

    Start of the cooperation with the Hobby-Wohnwagenwerk Ing. Harald Striewski GmbH, Fockbek. In the following years, Hobby becomes the undisputed market leader for caravans in Europe. The successful trade with motor homes and caravans is continued independently of the development of the Niesmann+Bischoff brand.

  8. Luxury is redefined

    1983

    Presentation of the first Niesmann+Bischoff Clou Liner incl. car garage at the IAA in Frankfurt. With this vehicle the luxury segment in motorhome construction is redefined.

  9. Cooperation with Bürstner begins

    1985

    Start of cooperation with the former Jakob Bürstner KG (today: Bürstner GmbH, Kehl am Rhein), which has been producing caravans since 1959 and started building motorhomes in 1986.

  10. Fendt caravans are added to the commercial range

    1986

    Start of the successful cooperation with Fendt GmbH (today: Fendt Caravan GmbH) for the sale of caravans in the Middle Rhine area, which still exists today.

  11. Passing on a successful company

    1992

    Sale of 80% of the Niesmann+Bischoff GmbH by the two families to the former American motorhome supplier Fleetwood Enterprises, Riverside (CA). The successful trade with motorhomes and caravans of the brands Bürstner, Hobby and Fendt among others at the location in Mülheim-Kärlich will continue independently of this.

  12. New plans

    1992

    Acquisition of a commercial property in the industrial area "August-Horch-Straße" in Polch near Koblenz for the company Niesmann+Bischoff GmbH.

  13. New construction of a company headquarters

    1993

    In Polch the new Niesmann+Bischoff GmbH headquarters is built and the product line "Flair" is developed as an extension to the existing "Clou" series.

  14. The companies continue to expand

    1994

    Purchase of a further, approximately 13,500 m² large plot of land in the industrial area "Kehrstraße" in Polch and new construction of a distribution centre for motorhomes and caravans by Ingrid Bischoff (née Niesmann) and Carl-Heinz Niesmann. The model series "Flair" is presented and is also a resounding success and further foundation stone for the expansion of the company. . In the same year the Niesmann+Bischoff GmbH moves into the new company headquarters in Polch.

  15. Niesmann Caravaning GmbH & Co. KG is founded

    1995

    Foundation of the Niesmann Caravaning GmbH & Co KG by Ruth Niesmann (wife of Carl-Heinz Niesmann) and Rainer Bischoff. The Niesmann Caravaning GmbH & Co. KG takes over all contractual relationships of the original Mittelrhein Caravaning Niesmann KG for the trade with caravans and motorhomes of the above mentioned manufacturers. The new company headquarters in the Kehrstraße in Polch accommodates two company buildings: a camping and accessories shop of about 1,150 m² with administration, as well as a highly modern workshop hall of about 500 m² with parts warehouse which sets standards in the caravan industry. In the future the Niesmann Caravaning company will specialize in the sale, service and rental of caravans and motorhomes and is constantly expanding its range of products.

  16. A further step towards the current company

    1995

    Sale of the remaining 20% share in the company Niesmann+Bischoff GmbH to the previous partner Fleetwood Enterprises by the Niesmann and Bischoff families, so that Fleetwood can in turn sell 100% of the company to the Hymer Group, Bad Waldsee. The Hymer Group continues the motorhome production under the name Niesmann+Bischoff at the company headquarters in the August-Horch-Straße in Polch. From now on there are no longer any personnel or financial links between the companies.

  17. Foundation of InterCaravaning

    1997

    Carl-Heinz Niesmann and six trade colleagues found InterCaravaning in Koblenz, a dealer organisation for specialist dealers from Germany and Europe, which today is the largest chain of specialist dealers in the mobile leisure sector with more than 40 owner-managed caravaning partners in Europe.

  18. The next enlargement is necessary

    1998

    The only 3 year old workshop building of the Niesmann Caravaning is already too small again: Therefore a further extension of about 150 m² workshop area is added to accommodate a modern brake tester with pit and a washing hall for motorhomes and caravans of about 5.5 m height. Expansion of the exhibition and sales area in the camping and accessories shop: the shop is given an upper floor with around 250 m² of presentation space.

  19. Again 100 m² more ...

    2001

    Further expansion of the storage capacity by adding a 100 m² freestanding warehouse on the premises in Kehrstraße.

  20. Cooperation with Concorde begins

    2001

    Start of the cooperation with Concorde Reisemobile GmbH, Aschbach. The knowledge gained from the development and distribution of the Niesmann+Bischoff brand induces the owner families Niesmann and Bischoff to make the right decision to serve the segment of luxury motor homes again by the meanwhile very successfully established supplier Concorde.

  21. More comfort for the customers arises

    2006

    Addition of a further, approximately 200 m² large "vehicle handover hall", hitherto unknown in the industry, in which the customers of the company can explain and receive their new vehicles in heated rooms, independent of the weather, in a pleasant, modern atmosphere.

  22. Cooperation with Hymer begins

    2006

    Start of cooperation with Hymer GmbH & Co KG, Bad Waldsee. With the cooperation with the Hymer Group, to which the Bürster brand has belonged since 1998, the distribution range of Niesmann Caravaning is broadly based: Caravans, panel vans and motorhomes of all sizes and price categories will from now on be offered at the Polch location.

  23. The wheels never stand still ...

    2007

    Further expansion of the storage capacity for the camping and accessories shop by a further 220 m² as well as the addition of several offices for customer reception and customer advice. Parallel to the extension of the main building, a 1,954 m² adjoining plot of land with warehouse is acquired to expand the company.

  24. Most successful dealer for the first time

    2008

    For the first time Niesmann Caravaning is awarded by Concorde Reisemobile, Europe's leading manufacturer of luxury motorhomes, as the most successful dealer of the season.

  25. The accessories shop is extended

    2010

    The accessories and camping shop will be expanded to include barbecues and barbeques. For this purpose the product range of Weber® is added, from whom Niesmann Caravaning immediately receives the premium status "World Partner".

  26. Foundation of EuroCaravaning

    2013

    Carl-Heinz Niesmann founds the company EuroCaravaning in Koblenz together with other trading partners, which among others distributes the panel van VANTourer in Europe. In the following years VANTourer rises to an established supplier of sporty panel vans and becomes test winner in the Promobil 01/2016 with the vehicle VANTourer 600L.

  27. Dirk Fohr becomes part of Niesmann Caravaning

    2015

    As of September 1, Dirk Fohr acquires 50 % of the Niesmann Caravaning GmbH & Co. KG in the course of the planned company succession by taking over Rainer Bischoff's share in the company.

  28. The next expansion stage is ignited

    2016

    The Niesmann and Bischoff families acquire a plot of land of about 4,000 m² with a commercial hall and office buildings of about 2,200 m² in the industrial area "Im Rotental" in Polch and thus in the immediate vicinity of the Niesmann Caravaning.

  29. Niesmann again defines new standards

    2017

    Another significant expansion of the Niesmann Caravaning by moving the workshop and logistics area into the new industrial hall of the Niesmann and Bischoff families and building a new enlarged repair reception with customer lounge and technical exhibition at the headquarters. The simultaneous settlement of the logistics and spare parts department in the new service hall leads to short walking distances and ideal process flows. With this Niesmann Caravaning again sets a benchmark in the industry and thus has more than 3,000 m² of heated service hall total area and more than 20 parallel, ultra-modern workshop workplaces. At the same time the rental department moves into its own rental hall on the directly adjacent company premises acquired 10 years ago. From now on, the rental car fleet of around 60 vehicles will be stored, processed and handed over to the rental customers here.

  30. Another award

    2018

    Niesmann Caravaning is awarded by Concorde Reisemobile, Europe's leading manufacturer of luxury motorhomes, for the 10th time in a row as most successful dealer.

  31. A new chapter of the company history is opened

    2018

    The company succession was successfully completed: Dirk Fohr also acquires the further 50% share of the company previously held by Ruth Niesmann and is from now on the managing sole shareholder of the company. Although all company shares have thus been transferred to new owners, Ruth and Carl-Heinz Niesmann will continue to actively support the company and its customers.

  32. Always up to date

    2018

    Modernisation of the brake and light test stand, as well as installation of a motorhome scale for vehicles up to 15 tons total weight.

  33. The success story continues under new management

    2019

    Conversion of the retail area of the camping and accessories shop, which has meanwhile grown to about 1,250 m², as well as the clothing and barbecue department into the new experience area of the Niesmann Caravaning brand worlds (to be experienced from March 2019).

Niesmann Caravaning looks back on a successful and traditional company history.   

Founded in 1955 by Hugo and Elfriede Niesmann, the young company on the Middle Rhine can establish itself very quickly as a quality supplier for caravans. A lot of heart and soul, a high level of commitment of the whole family and loyal employees let the young company expand rapidly.   

Thus the first two decades are characterised by continuous company growth and constant change. In 1975 Hugo Niesmann recognizes at a foreign trade fair in Amsterdam that the American motorhome market and its products are considerably further developed. Thereupon he decides to offer these products on the German market. Together with his son Carl-Heinz Niesmann and his son-in-law Rainer Bischoff they decide to enter into a cooperation with the American market leader Fleetwood Enterprises only a short time later. From now on Niesmann Caravaning becomes the sole importer for the German market.  

Only 6 years later Rainer Bischoff convinces his brother-in-law Carl-Heinz Niesmann - inspired by the motorhome import from the U.S.A. - of his then bold plan to produce premium vehicles adapted to the European market himself. Nothing less than the best motorhome for a demanding clientele is to be developed and built: the company Niesmann+Bischoff GmbH is born!

Further years pass by in record speed and even the biggest dreams come true: with the CLOU by Niesmann+Bischoff a real success story succeeds which is unrivalled until today. Looking back, especially the cohesion of the families Ingrid and Rainer Bischoff with Ruth and Carl-Heinz Niesmann in the years of development is one of the success factors.

With the steady rise of the Niesmann+Bischoff brand it becomes increasingly clear to the founders that only a strong partner can exploit the full potential and open up further markets. Other market participants, for their part, recognise the jewel this young company near Koblenz has in its crown, and so in 1992, after eleven years of extremely successful development and marketing, an offer by the former supplier Fleetwood Enterprises (USA) to take over the lifework as a guarantee for further growth and company success can no longer be turned down. Fleetwood itself passes its shares on to the Hymer Group in 1995, so that since then Niesmann+Bischoff GmbH has been a 100% subsidiary without any financial or personal connection to our company.  

About the lasting success of the Niesmann+Bischoff GmbH, which is based on a vision of the pioneers

Rainer Bischoff and Carl-Heinz Niesmann developed, we are very pleased. 

Even though much attention was paid to the new company during these years, the families did not forget the core of the business - the trading company. On the contrary, the trading company also began to expand further in the 1990s. The striving for a model company in the motorhome trade as well as the desire for better accessibility for the customers led to a move to a company designed according to the most modern aspects to the current company location at the entrance to Polch, directly on the A 48 motorway from Koblenz to Trier and thus close to the Koblenz motorway junction (A 48 / A 61). An ideal location on one of the main European axes for through traffic from north to south and east to west.

DThe consistent expansion of the service portfolio and the determined implementation of the vision to create the Niesmann brand worlds as a comprehensive experience area for leisure and camping under one roof for the valued customers will lead to further company successes in the following years. Since the middle of the 2000s the Niesmann company has been the first address for premium motorhomes of the Concorde brand in Germany and far beyond; in 2018 management and employees can be happy about the award "10 years most successful Concorde dealer in a row".

With the gradual takeover of the company by Dirk Fohr in the years 2015 to 2018 a further chapter of the company history will be opened and the continued existence of Niesmann Caravaning as a pure family business will be secured.

Constant will to change, which was put into the cradle by the founding couple Elfriede and Hugo Niesmann, and the unconditional striving for best performance for the customers still characterise the range of products and the attitude towards work today.
