Relaxed vacation with children

Start your family vacation by car...

Family vacation means vacation with the children and they need the best entertainment. Depending on the duration of the trip, it can be very long and exhausting for the little ones. You as parents are now challenged and a good preparation for the vacation trip pays off.

We have put together some valuable tips for a pleasant start to the long-awaited vacations. Creative games during the drive and entertaining children's audio books provide the perfect distraction.

Good entertainment during the ride

To make long car journeys with children as pleasant and varied as possible, we have put together some games that your children will enjoy.

City-country-river: Everyone has to find the matching terms for a letter, e.g. Regensburg, Russia, Rhine. For each term you get 10 points. If a fellow player has the same term, there are only 5 points. The game can also be extended by other categories, e.g. professions, names or plants.

Who am I?: Everyone writes the name of a famous person on a piece of paper and sticks it to the forehead of another player. The other player must now guess who he or she is by asking questions.

Wave: The players take turns trying to get people to wave at them from passing cars. Whoever succeeds gets a point.

Card games: Always a popular pastime. Mau Mau, UNO or the good old quartet are in the luggage anyway and should be handy during the trip.

Intermediate breaks

In order for your children to get enough exercise after a long drive and sitting for a long time, you can take e.g. a rubber twist or skipping rope etc. with you. It is recommended to stop at rest areas where there is also a playground. There the children can let off steam and possibly fall asleep during the onward journey.

Audio book tips

Are your children Harry Potter fans? As an alternative to reading the book, you can play the story of the Sorcerer's Apprentice on CD while driving. Your children will certainly listen very eagerly and lean back in the back seat with peace of mind.

The author Fredrik Vahle has published some interesting CD's especially for children, where children can sing along or even play.

Here are just two suggestions:

  • "The Turnip": funny and cunning songs for children from seven to seventy.
  • "Der Spatz": 13 play and story songs for children

Other suggestions:

"Peter and the Wolf / Carnival of the Animals": The story by Sergei Prokofiev is narrated by the famous actor Sascha Hehn. Bernd Meinunger was responsible for the text. The second part of the CD is about the "Carnival of the Animals."

"Bibi Blocksberg - The Musical" by Marcell Gödde: Bibi is once again on her broom and has to fulfill a tricky mission. A story for the whole family.

"Grimm's most beautiful fairy tales": on this CD are the 15 most beautiful fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm - from Frau Holle, Hänsel and Gretel to Schneewittchen and Rumpelstilzchen.
